Scenic Drive – Coastal Route to Oban

Scenic Drives

Leaving Glencoe on the A82 northbound, at the roundabout just before the Ballachulish Bridge take the A828 signposted to Oban.  This road takes you along the coast past many beautiful and historic sites.  As you reach Appin you have a fine view of Castle Stalker with the island of Lismore in the background, and a detour down to Port Appin links back onto the Oban road further along.  The bridge at Loch Creran makes the journey shorter but for those not in a hurry the road around the loch is an attractive alternative.  At Barcaldine another option offers a 14 mile detour via North Connel and Ardchattan Priory.  Whichever way you choose fine scenery is guaranteed!  And there are also many places to stop for refreshments, petrol and visitor attractions.

From Oban you can either retrace your route or extend your drive via Connel, heading towards Dalmally and up through Glen Orchy (another scenic drive) on and back to Glencoe.
