Tuesday September 3d , Tim Edey and Ross Ainslie will be performing here together in what promises to be another memorable evening of great music, and a fantastic start to our new concert series.

Some of you were privileged enough to have heard Tim play here before when he astounded the audience with his musical and verbal dexterity. It’s a treat to have him play here again, particularly as so many of you have been asking if I can get him back. It is a first time here for Ross.

Ross Ainslie is one of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians and composers, playing pipes, whistles and cittern. Continuing to take tradition to exciting new levels, Ross is a founding member of the turbo-charged 13-piece musical powerhouse Treacherous Orchestra. A highly in demand musician, he has joined an array of acclaimed bands and musicians on tour and in the recording studio – as well as his work with Treacherous Orchestra, India Alba, Salsa Celtica and Jarlath Henderson, other engagements include tours with Gordon Duncan, Flook and Ivan Drever’s band Clueless. Having toured around the world, Ross has taken part in many prestigious events festivals and events – from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games announcement celebrations. He has also received industry recognition for his talent with a nomination for Best Instrumentalist at the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2010, as well as nominations in Best Live Act category at the Scots Trad Music Awards for the past three years (with Jarlath Henderson in 2008, and in 2009 and 2010 with Treacherous Orchestra).

Tim Edey (BBC Radio Two’s Musician Of The Year 2012 – Radio 2 Folk Awards) multi-instrumentalist and singer, has toured the world and recorded with most of the major names in Celtic/Contemporary roots music including; The Chieftains, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Natalie MacMaster, Altan, Capercaillie, Brendan Power, Michael McGoldrick, Seamus Begley, Dougie Maclean, The Barra MacNeills, JP Cormier, Shaun Davey, Session A9, Lunasa, Vinnie Kilduff, Mary Black, Session A9, Julie Fowlis, Frankie Gavin to name but a few…

Tim is now a name on the world stage in his own right after 17 years of very hard work and consequently is rated by many to be one of the world’s finest ever melodeon and guitar players in folk and contemporary acoustic music today!

Originally from Broadstairs in Kent and of Irish descent, Tim honed his style of playing guitar by learning from his father Richard (a fine guitarist himself) and listening to the likes of Django Reinhardt, Ed Boyd and Steve Cooney. Tim’s live solo shows are a stunning mix ranging through world music-inspired instrumental virtuosity and passion with a strong Celtic theme, to audience-chorus lines. Above all Tim does not deliver a dry-as-dust demonstration of virtuosity. Far from it and much, much more than that. He entertains throughout chatting informally to the audience while blowing them away with his sheer musicality in a highly entertaining night of tuneful genius.

“Tim Edey is brilliant – in every which way. As a guitarist he has few peers. As a box player he’s a magician. As a character he’s off the scale” Colin Irwin, fRoots

“Utterly fantastic. Sheer, wonderful ebullient music” Mike Harding BBC Radio 2

“Tim Edey plays a host of different instruments to a standard us mere mortals can only dream of. Listen and weep.”
