A short ‘there and back again’ walk but for a small amount of effort it gives a splendid view over the village, clear sight of the Morvern hills and the islands of Loch Leven.

Cross the road from Tourist Information Centre to the Hardware shop adjacent to which is a gate going through to the old slate quarry.  Go through the gate and immediately turn right, signposted The Brecklet Path, up a gently sloping path that goes to the height of the top of the quarry.  There is a good view of the face of the quarry and down into the small ponds that were excavated for the slate material.

Looking around there is an aerial view over the whole village nestling in the shadow of Beinn a’ Bheithir.  To the west there are the hills on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, to the north there are hills on the north side of Loch Leven – just too high to allow a view of Ben Nevis, to the east is the Pap of Glencoe – immediately recognisable by its conical shape when viewed from any angle.  In the loch there are the islands, the largest of which still has the old chapel of St Munda with the headstones marking the burial places of many of the famous former residents of the area.  The remains of the clan chief of the Macdonalds who was killed as part of the infamous massacre of Glencoe are buried there.  Return by the same route.
