Glencoe and Glen Etive

Scenic Drives & Days Out

    Activity Details

Perhaps the most spectacular part of this drive is the drive through Glencoe itself.  Following the A82 towards Tyndrum, the road climbs steadily up through the glen where the valley is at its narrowest, and on past the craggy heights of Buchaille Etive Mor, standing as a sentinel at the entrance to the glen.  As you pass the mountain you will see a turning to the right to Glen Etive.  This single track road takes you down Glen Etive to the head of Loch Etive some twelve miles.  It is well worth the trip.  Many have described this as one of the prettiest glens in the country.  James Bond fans might recognise the scenery from Skyfall.  The house at Dalness wasn’t used in the film but does have ties to Ian Flemming.  The river Etive forms numerous pools and waterfalls as it courses towards the sea, and it’s not uncommon to spot a golden eagle or two in this beautiful place.

Glen Etive is the stunning glen that features in the James Bond movie Skyfall.
