Starting at the Loch Leven Hotel on the north side of the Ballachulish Bridge a short walk round to Bishops Bay is very pleasant.

Start by walking down towards the slipway that used to be where the ferry took off to cross the narrow part of the loch.  The ferry started out as a rowing boat on to which a single car was precariously driven.  The ferry was then rowed across the loch.  The ferry became motorised – still for one car – and then a really modern roll on roll off vessel that could carry up to six cars!  Looking at the loch as you wander along this walk you can see the speed of the water as it flows in and out of the loch on each tide change so taking any of the ferries must have been quite exciting.

Turn left along the shore just before the jetty and follow the path/shoreline.  You soon pass Alltshellac House which, in earlier times, was the Bishop’s residence.  Cross the causeway on to the little islet of An Dunan and enjoy the view overlooking the yachts moored in the bay.  Return by the same route.
