This walk is great for all ages and abilities, an idyllic setting in the heart of Glencoe.

The Lochan is set in what was the grounds of the home of the Earl of Strathcona who was, for a while, the Governor General of Canada.  His Canadian wife became a little homesick so he landscaped the whole area around the house to look like the Canadian Rockies.  It is often commented that the area around looks like a miniature Lake Louise in British Columbia.

Drive through the village of Glencoe over the humped back bridge and turn left after the gate house.  After a few hundred metres a sign shows the way into the car park on the right, will soon be a parking fee so worth checking before leaving your car.

Red Trail
This main trail around the lochan is suitable for wheelchairs.  There are numerous seats picnic benches where you can relax and take in the views.  Pontoons jutting out into the water are ideal for that perfect photograph or for feeding the ducks.  On a still day the reflective views around the lochan are quite stunning!

Yellow Trail
Take the trail on the lower path out of the carpark with the small lochan on your left that in season has water lilies flowering.  Take the first path on the right and then almost immediately left into the woods, following the yellow markers.  This trail is undulating with some short, steep sections and emerges at lochan to begin an excellent extension to the walk.

Blue Trail
From the trail on the right heads very steeply up the hill and rejoins the red lochan trail at the far end.  Although steep, it is a good path and gives a splendid view from the top looking over Loch Leven and its surrounding hills on the other side of Loch Leven, Beinn a’ Bheithir to the left, and, looking behind is the Pap of Glencoe.
